what is corruption? a lunch meeting – a treat really – with a prospective business associate – can that be a precursor to corruption? accepting a gift from someone who obviously is looking for business – is that corruption or is that precursor to corruption?

maybe i am asking these question because i am new to this game. maybe gifts, favors, undue kindness, over friendliness are all actually in some form, corruption. or this maybe just business transactions. if i may say so, this i think is the foreplay of business. i scratch your back, you scratch mine. i cover your ass, you cover mine. i vouch for you, you vouch for me, i take care of your welfare, you take care of mine. etc etc.

it sure is nice to feel pampered, to feel important, especially in front of family and friends. but all these questions about corruption emerged because of something one of my family members said. indicated that my accepting the gifts for my child, the dinner for my family, the time ‘they’ (indicating the company boss) spent, the offer of hospitality [all from the prospective vendor] amounts to corruption.

but that’s absurd! is it not?
