this image i simply love.
it captures the beauty of the Maldives and
the beauty, the freedom, and modernity
mixed with proud Muslim identity of our women folk
showcased here by a lovely Maldivian woman ![]()
i do not know who she is. but i like the image.
i simply love it. i borrowed the image from here.
the one thing i miss when i go overseas -
the wide open ocean, with its beguiling ripples.
the one sound i miss when i go overseas -
the calming rhythm of the waves lapping on the shores
the one smell i miss when i go overseas -
the sweet and salty smell of our seas in the breeze
the one scenery i miss when i go overseas -
the calm & serene atmosphere of our lovely beaches.
the beach for us, is a 5-10 minutes walk away -
from wherever we are while on our land.
our lands surrounded and separated by the ocean -
just less than 2 sq kilometers is each of our island.

i pride myself for being a Maldivian citizen,
for the unique country we have.
i pride myself for being a Maldivian citizen,
whenever we stand out from the crowd.
one such moment is to hear that we won.
yes, the Maldives wins an award! maldives wins:)
i did not know we were in a race -
but this news headline says otherwise.
Maldives wins as the
Best WORLDWIDE beach destination,
the title given by Sunday Times Travel Magazine
readers’ award 2011 held in London.

And ya I said so … that is a poem! Wachugonnado??
i am just going to do nothing other than mark it as victory

now i’m 100 percent sure you will not leave Maldives out when you take off on a 90 day tour around the world
[anyone else reading this, pls pls take a look at: http://kweschn.wordpress.com/2011/11/26/just-the-two-of-us/ ... ]
and you know what!!!
my psychic powers are telling me
“oh amira my child! just be patient, for a while,
and you will see maldives appearing soon,
in the same post – in it’s revised version.
Elyas Mulu Kiros will not be able to sleep,
nor walk, nor write, nor blog, in peace unless”
… LOL
LOL!!!!!! Hilarious you are, Amira! You killing me softly over here lol … Believe in your psychic powers, and yes patience pays off! lol I like how you are able to organize your thoughts poetically! Nurture it!
That’s a talent right there!
So Maldives huh! … you make such a great culture ambassador!
You realize you just sold Maldives to me and am so buying it! LOL!
oh no.
i rest my case.
i wouldn’t want to be the cause
the cause of your death, softly or not … LOL
peace
Well, am already killed! LOL it doesnt help to pity me once am dead already lol .. you shouldve thought of the consequences in the beginning! lol …
Your psychic power has forced my fingers to make some corrections here: http://kweschn.wordpress.com/2011/11/26/just-the-two-of-us/ lol … now I can certainly claim Maldives as my destination! Yihawoo! lol
LOL. You said it sister!
From your description and the pictures above, it is easy to see why your home won such an award. Being from a beach community myself, I’m pretty sure I would love it too. It looks wonderful.
Thanks Miss D
the beach is such a wonderful place. But sometimes I wish for a little less sun, a bit of cool weather etc etc …
Amira~
What a beautiful tribute to your country! I love your words: missing the ocean smells, sounds, sights, when you are away. The photos…..glorious! The blues are so intense. I am envious of your short walk to the beaches too. I can feel your pride for your country as I read this lovely piece, and I want to know more about it.
**and I want to visit! ❤

thank you for the lovely words. compliments about my country is like music to my ears [in this case eyes
and you are always welcome. if you get lucky and are heading our way just give a yell
and i will make it my personal business to show you around the city and then to a couple of nearby islands
that’s a promise.
am i also gonna get the same promise or what???? lol
lol…. you threatened to swallow my beloeved maldives with your mightly Atlantic Ocean!!!! and now expect me to extend you the invitation ????
i fume and pump my fist at the screen – on that kweshan mark on your head …
AND my rational mind consoles me
“dear dear amira. remember how the poor guy revised his iteneriary for the 90 day tour around the world. remember how the poor guy keeps pouring compliments over compliments over your attempts at poetry … give the poor guy some slack. he even confessed to wanting to visit .. that he’s changed his mind about the beauty of maldives ……”
i was being lulled into believing what the rational mind was telling me. [& i hear some music in the background]
BUT… i just remembered !!!! you only want to visit maldives because of that “beautiful” girl up there
… LOL
LOL!!!!!
… Listen to the rational mind, Amira, listen to it!!! lol
… I must admit that beautiful girl (without the quotation marks) was part of the reason for me to visit LOL …. And of course, the beautiful Maldives, Amira’s beloved country is the primary reason.
[oh!!! the quotation marks - he has to point that out]
[i will ignore that ... lol]
well done !!! for making amends.
now i extend you an open invitation.
give a yell before you begin your journey
and i will meet you on arrival, with a big welcoming smile,
a garland of flowers, and a fresh coconut ready with a straw.
that’s a promise
oh and my bike and me will be at your disposal to show you around my city
I feel so privileged and overjoyed!!!
You are such a kind and wonderful Mermaid!
Now I take back all the threat I made earlier … peace and friends forever!!
And I would like to extend the same offer, whether you wanna fly to Addis or NuYork at any time!
oh great
i got an invite
merci
oh now I know and now I’m a fan..
thank you john
now i am a fan of yours too

exactly how I feel too..how you put those feelings and thoughts into words is just amazing! I love it Amira!
oh thank you Flora.
I am amazed at how people like yourself and laafenn and many others put your thoughts in writing so cleverly
this was just a feeble attempt by a patriotic person swelling with pride to learn about something positive about my country. that’s just words that came from my heart
comments like that sure blooms my heart and encourages me to write and gives me more confidence to me
THANK YOU
so nice that the ocean is so close to you – really lovely post
thank you Sheila for your lovely comment
I’m so very glad the ocean is close to me
