Perfume: the whiff, the smell, the scent.
Designer perfumes, such varieties!
Fat prices, amazing packaging,
scent of such assortment -
floral, fruity, green, water, woody, oriental;
some just reeking of richness, luxury and grandeur.
Resist I cannot, a gift of perfume!
My vanity stand is lined with a variety,
mostly floral fragrances, with their sensual heavenly scent.
Pleasures, Jadore, Beyond Paradise, Beautiful, Dior Addict,
White Linen, Miracles, Rose The One, Ferre rose, Golden Delicious,
L’Eau D’Issey, Opium, Yvresse, Clinique.
Bottles of varying designs, colours, and sizes;
some travel size, some larger ones;
some received as gifts; some I bought myself.
Why all of a sudden I talk about perfume?
Exactly!!! it started with MFB’s perfume questions;
a blogger friend who talks about personal finance;
and I agree we Maldivians just spend an awful lot
on designer perfumes. That is not the topic today though!
The strangest weirdest thought after reading that post,
being reminded about the movie “perfume”.
“Perfume: the story of a murderer” I watched some years ago.
Such a gruesome, repulsive,
and yet such an adorably beautiful, thoughtful,
and moving movie

Perfume: the story of a murderer
The movie has come to the forefront, etched on my mind
it annoyingly won’t budge off. grrrrr!!!
Dread just keeps rolling up my spine
getting the tiny hairs go straight with fear and repugnance.
So here I am, trying to spit it out.
Trying to get rid of the repulsion
and to once again fall in love with the scent, the fragrance,
the perfumes that I adore.
And at the same time I cannot just dismiss “Perfume“
Perfume the movie is just a very intriguing one
A beguiling, a cleverly directed and presented one.
The story around Jean-Baptiste Grenouille,
born in the stench of eighteenth century Paris -
portrayed just wonderfully by Ben Wishaw.
I remember being practically glued to the screen
practically gaping, and almost not breathing,
all through the movie. Such sensuality, such cruelty,
such a storyline, such direction, and such acting.
A great one, set in Pareeh [Paris] the mother of perfume!
Oh ok. Now I feel good. It was just a movie.
I can go back to cherishing my perfume

this movie was something else
but capturing the scent of a woman..makes you think.
Arjun!!!!! finally you came to leave a comment
thank you
and yes, I agree that movie was something else. it really did make me think.
I made me think … is there some truth in the way perfume is made and what the movie portrayed? it made me think … did anything even remotely close to that happen in the history of perfume making????!!! it really made me think
OO La LA Perfume!!
I was earlier talking about that movie on another blog!
What a funny coincidence!
I love that movie! I watched it like twice or three times!
And I then read the book cuz I was told the book is much better, but I didn’t think so.
The film rocked for me. It is such a gory story but told in such a beautiful way that it makes you forget its goriness.
That’s the beauty of art, I guess—it makes you sympathetic to unforgivable crime.
Excellent write up mon amie!
…. PS: I watched Salam Namaste today lol … such a fun movie! And I also watched My Name is Khan few days ago! Review coming up soon
3 Idiots next lol
that sure is a funny coincidence … nice
And yes I totally agree with you – perfume is such a great story and awesome movie. The guy was insane and what he did was wrong and yet … I felt sympathetic towards him
It also made me keep away from perfume the fragrance for some time
thank you for the bEAUTIful compliment mon ami
hmm…. so you watched salam namaste – nothing special about that one … but I agree it is a fun movie. But I would not recommend it to anyone
can’t wait to hear what you think about Khan movie
Me no like you hating on the movies I recommend!
… Salam Namaste is fun, yes silly.
My fav lines:
Jaggu: “Babes, why I don’t the trust Indians?”
Girl: “Sorry?”
Jaggu: “Exactly!”
Jaggu: “Babes, what I alway the say about Indians?”
Girl: “Sorry.”
Jaggu: “Exactly!”
Jaggu: “Home the sweets home.”
I love that character!!
The Indian wannabe Cowboy in Australia.
He made me laugh so much!
What about the comical Dr. Vijay Kumar MDGGO
…
Nick and Ambar, Ron and Cathy are cute couples despite the unrealistic nature of their stories!
Yes the movie has a lot of cheesy moments, but I like cheese, so I dont mind cheesy stuff!
I meant the cowboy wanna be Indian in Australia!
“Babes, why I always the make mistake?”
oh … I take back that comment
that’s an awesome movie. guys and gals do watch salam namaste … for a fun ride… a cute movie good for the laughs
now happy my friend?
I really did enjoy that movie – honest
Perfume is one of those movies named cunningly; like my favorite one, Scent of a Woman!
Amira, I don’t know from where you come up with the topics to write about.. Well, where ever they are from, I am glad you manage to finish off and justify every post, every article!
scent of a woman
… yes. that was a great catch phrase.
as for the topics to write about … this one came up because of a blog post by MFB and then my reply to him. After posting the comment, the movie just will not let go of me
watching the movie Perfume, I was so disgusted at points and then wondering at others … do we really have some magical formula in our bodies ???!!!!!
my way of dealing with things is scribbling about that … simple as that.
and I’m glad of the blogosphere where my scribbles can be documented to be re-visited later if ever wanted
thanks for the visit and the comment dear Laafenn
hama vadhelaafa meethi mithaa baindhaa nulaa nudhevunee

the tango was superb and so romantic
Now I sure want to watch that movie.
Hey Elyas, this is one movie that should go on the recommend list
the scent of a woman
Watched that movie a while ago. It really was something else, it had me hanging on every word.
exactly Hamza. it sure was a powerful movie.
intriguing and my god such heart throbbing moments
hmmmm now i will definatly watch it, i just checked its rating on imdb and waoo it rates it 7.5 means worth watching
you should Fanni. you should watch it. It is one of a kind. just like you are one of a kind
seriously the movie is damn good and by god the actor so superbly good.
and the French setting and the costumes all so very great.
i wonder what it would have been like to live in that time
hehe. glad i Inspired you to write a blog post about it. Now your post made me want to watch that creepy movie again.
That definitely is a gross movie but with a good story line and very realistic. Now cant even remember much about the movie. But remember the guy smelling women and kept on killing the “smell good” ones.
oh yes MFB. I am glad I wrote that. and for sure, the inspiration came from you.
isn’t blogging great ??
and yes… i know – it was one gross movie. but worth watching and getting fascinated at the same time. and just like you I have been wanting to watch it again. to recall the gory details
I must now watch this movie… So many have said that it’s a great film and yet one that I’ve never seen…. Thank you; this will give me something to do on a cold wet afternoon when I need to relax… although, from what you’ve written maybe I ‘won’t’ relax whilst watching… hmmmmmm… think I’ll watch it anyway…
carolyn, it is perfect for a cold wet afternoon

it’s disturbing … true…. but it is also very touching and beautiful.
make sure you don’t get mesmarised by his cleverness
the people of the village faints at a whiff of his creation
enjoy the movie. and do let us know what you think of our recommendation
An instance when I prefer the movie too the book! Altogether I think the authors idea was brilliant, but disturbing. His writing style is one of my favorites but I had trouble ‘liking’ the book. The movie on the other hand tried to give the Grenouille actual emotion and make him sympathetic and relatable. Altogether the movie felt so artistic and well done and I ended up really liking it! Though I had to admit some of the american accents in so called 17th century France made me chuckle!
guess there is no point in even looking for the book
i was toying with the idea of reading the book …
a bit of a chuckle here and there was good …
thanks for the visit maria
What a fun and crazy post.
You are right lorrelee
It is a crazy post and I had fun too.
such a contrasting two sides … one with mindblowing fragrance
and the other with mindblowing cruelty … and yet both beautiful in their own ways
Love your post! Especially the last lines!
Hm mm. I never even heard of the movie… but perfume I love. I love searching for the latest ones from Paris… I visit the perfumeries when I travel. Like you, I’m obsessed with great quality perfume. Now you know one of my interests.
Guess we have something in common
But I’m not too crazy about finding latest ones. As long as I like the smell .. that works for me.
I simply cannot stand fruity perfumes.. no matter how recent
About the movie, it’s a worth watching movie. I’m not much of a movie person… but am glad I got to watch it
I actually liked this film a lot! There was a lot of psychological depth to the entire picture and the actors played their part well.
me too
I liked and enjoyed the film very much. I was glued to the screen from start to end.
you are right about the psychological depth …
